St. Bede School

Located on the corner of Route 59 and Wilson Road in Ingleside, St. Bede School has a long reputation of excellence in and out of the classroom. The strength of our school is found in the strength of the community that exists between students, teachers, and parents who work together for the well-being of the children. We provide a welcoming, nurturing environment that serves as the backdrop for a holistic approach to education. Learning takes place in a disciplined environment that promotes individual expression, collaboration, inquiry, and personal responsibility.

Named a Blue Ribbon School of Academic Excellence

The Blue Ribbon Schools Program sets a national standard of excellence for all schools striving for the highest level of achievement.  Each year since 1982, the U.S. Department of Education has sought out schools where students attain and maintain high academic goals. St. Bede School Is  honored to be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School.

The Blue Ribbon Schools Award brings public attention to the best schools in the United States, recognizing schools whose students thrive and excel.

The program is part of a larger U.S. Department of Education effort to identify and disseminate knowledge about best school leadership and teaching practices. Blue Ribbon Schools represent the full diversity of American education. They are urban, suburban, and rural; large and small; traditional and innovative.  They serve students of every social, economic and ethnic background.  At the same time, they share a handful of qualities. Their leaders not only articulate a vision of excellence, they remain actively involved in the mechanics of teaching and learning. Teachers, students, and administrators are all held to high standards. Data is used diligently to adapt teaching and learning to support every student. History

St. Bede School opened in 1958 as a result of dedicated parishioners who were determined to provide a Catholic educational opportunity in Ingleside.  The original building was torn down and replaced with a new, state of the art building in 2007.

The school and church are named in honor of St. Bede the Venerable, widely regarded as the greatest of all the Anglo Saxon scholars. Born in 673,  Bede began his monastic discipline at a Benedictine monastery at the age of 7. When he completed his schooling, he moved to the monastery of St. Paul and remained there for the rest of his life.  He was ordained in 702.

St. Bede was declared Venerable (made sacred) by the church in 836 and canonized in 1899. His feast day is commemorated on May 25, with the title “Doctor of the Church”.

St. Bede Church and St. Peter Church in Antioch are two worship sites for Our Lady of the Lakes Parish, the result of a parish merger that occurred in 2016.  At that time, St. Peter School closed and St. Bede became the parish school.
