My Birthday Buddy and me!
  • My ELA Students will learn…

    • Language is a powerful tool for expressing ideas, beliefs, and feelings.

    • Knowledge of language facilitates thought.

    • Readers, listeners, and viewers continually develop and apply strategies to construct meaning from increasingly complex and challenging texts.

    • Writers and speakers strategically use language to communicate for a variety of purposes.

    • Individuals need advanced literacy skills to participate actively and successfully in today’s demanding, information-based society.

    • Literature reveals the complexities of the world and human experience.

  • Education is an ever-changing world due to the fast pace of society, and as a teacher, I am tasked to develop well-rounded students who are ready to tackle the challenges of the world. As an educator, I work hard to provide students with the tools they need to become lifelong learners. As a lifelong learner, I continue to grow alongside my students and to develop new teaching strategies to help my students become successful citizens as guided by the Catholic Common Core Standards of English. Being a good teacher means adapting your teaching to the needs of your students and to be willing to learn from those students learning from you. In order to succeed at this, I take every opportunity I am given to develop my teaching skills and hone my craft.

  • My name is Mrs. Elizabeth Coon. I am so excited to begin my 6th year at St. Bede. I love being a part of the Bede Family.  I received my undergraduate degree in Secondary Education with a Middle School endorsement and English, Creative Writing from Knox College in Galesburg, IL. Knox College is also where I met my husband.

I taught Writing for one year at Magee Middle School in Round Lake, IL. Then I moved to Palombi Middle School in Lake Villa, where I taught ELA for 14 years. During my tenure at Palombi I was able to obtain a Master's Degree in Teaching and Leadership from St. Xavier University. I also obtained my endorsement in Gifted Education. Before leaving Palombi, I obtained a Master's of Education in Reading awarding me a license as a Reading Specialist K-12.

St. Peter's Church is where I grew up strengthening my faith. I am happy have returned to OLL Parish to inspire and educate scholars.

I live in Lake Villa with my two daughters (Joslin and Emillie), husband, and Bull Mastiff, George. We love taking vacations, watching movies and making homemade pizza together. My family is my world.
