Hi, I’m Mrs. Lind and the first-grade teacher. I’ve been a Lake County resident for over 25 years and teaching first grade for five years here at St. Bede School. My other experiences in the education field include teaching middle school science for one year and teaching third grade for 4.5 years at SFX before staying home to raise my children. MYSTERY READERS
Mystery Readers Wanted
Every Friday from 2:00-2:10 pm
Please consider signing up to come read to the children. They love guessing who the mystery reader may be! They also love hearing someone tell them stories. This activity promotes the love of reading and models reading a story with expression! Please don’t forget to bring a book to read. Grandparents and aunts and uncles are welcome too. Please email a date and I will ask for three clues about you to share with the students.
Thanks you in advance,
Mrs. Lind

First Grade Happenings
It’s hard to believe we have been in school for 10days already!! First graders have been working on establishing their new school routines and getting to know each other.
We are currently working on our i-Ready diagnostic tests. It’s important for the children to get a good night's sleep, eat breakfast and arrive to school on time.
One of our new routines is our new reading logs. In the past, I would give a monthly log, this year we are going to do weekly logs. So, expect to see a reading log on Fridays and they are due the following Friday.
Spelling tests will be every 2 weeks. All the students should have brought their spelling lists home already this week to practice.
9/16/23
First graders continue to work on making ten in math. We are using number bonds and ten frames as tools to help find number partners that make ten.
“Blackout” was our first realistic fiction story we read in class. The children loved sharing their stories about being in a black out.
We will be learning that God sent his own Son, Jesus to us, his greatest gift. Secondly, we will learn about the Blessed Trinity too.
In social studies will are learning about where we are in world. We are learning are cardinal directions, how to read a map.
Other important reminders:
Reading logs are due on Fridays.
9/22 no school; teacher in-service day
picture day

Research shows that by the time a child is five-years-old their brain is 90% developed, said Barnes. “Reading a minimum of 20 minutes a day allows children's vocabulary to grow and expand, exposing them to 1.8 million vocabulary words a year.” -Elizabeth Barnes, Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia.
